Come and celebrate
national trails day in Māhukona, North Kohala
On Saturday, June 4, the E Mau Nā Ala Hele will be hosting a National Trails Day observance in Māhukona, North Kohala. A short annual business meeting will begin at 10:30 am at the large warehouse on the right side of Māhukona Park Road (as you enter from the highway). After the meeting, guest speakers will update the attendees about the recent progress being made to acquire 642 acres in Māhukona for a Navigational and Cultural Complex and public open space.

Once slated to become a resort and golf course, efforts are well on the way to protecting this significant and sacred place from development. It is a cherished, natural area where hiking, fishing, swimming, picnicking, and Hawaiian cultural practices will be welcomed in perpetuity. Find out how you can join the initiative to protect Māhukona. Bring a brown bag lunch and a beach chair (available seating is limited). Cold refreshments will be available. After lunch there will be a walk of about 2 miles (round trip) to view and learn about the Ko`a Heiau Holomoana, an ancient Hawaiian navigational shrine that continues to be honored and used today.

The Board of Directors would like to thank you for your continued support even during our recent dormant period during the pandemic. Our expenses such as insurance, membership in the Partnership for the National Trails System and website costs continue even when we are not active on the ground. As we once again venture forth to preserve, protect and enjoy our ancient trails, we ask that you consider renewing your membership and your dedication to our mission. Mahalo nui loa to those members who have already renewed for 2022!
